In Maintenant two men appear to be in the process of moving several objects. But instead of actually carrying the objects somewhere, they just stand pat. The only thing they do is talk about the one thing that despite their idleness, relentlessly continues: time. They for example talk about the shortcomings of the word “now”, the exact durations of everyday meaningless tasks or the ending of the film The Music Box. A Laurel and Hardy film in which the protagonists are equally inept as movers as the characters in Maintenant.
Their conversations however come to nothing. Although they try to approach it from every possible angle, time remains something that they cannot get a grip on.
This video was presented together with the four objects that the two characters are holding. Together they form a mattress in the shape of a so-called “histomap”. A chart that uses colors and abstract to map historical events and periods.

It has not less than three syllables. You’re right. ‘Maintenant’ is completely unsuitable to describe ‘now’. Before you’re done pronouncing the word ‘maintenant’, ‘maintenant’ has been long over.
