Slow and Gradual

Slow and Gradual

2012 | HD Video | 4'11"

This video, part of the exhibition The Arranging of Books by Color in DeServiceGarage in Amsterdam, features a friend of the artist that recently moved back to Taiwan after living in the Netherlands for a while. In the video Beckers discusses his difficulties with saying goodbye to people. In his friends presence he comes up with a new way of saying goodbye. A way that is not only slow and gradual, but above all ignores the friendship and affection that exists between them.
This video was exhibited together with the set in which the video was recorded.

It’s like when you get into the water. If you jump straight into the water you get completely wet instantly. But if you slowly immerse yourself into the water, let’s say by going down one of those ladders they have by the edge of a swimming pool, you also get wet, but it happens more slowly and more gradually.
